Nintendo and Sony Team-Up for Live-Action Zelda Film
I never thought I would see the day Sony and Nintendo would team up. Much less being a Nintendo icon.
Producer Avi Arad and director Wes Ball will collaborate with Nintendo to create a live-action movie based on the enduring series The Legend of Zelda. Yes, you read that correctly.
Informed by Nintendo, Arad (Blade, Spider-Man, Ghost in the Shell) and Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Zelda, will co-produce the movie.
As for Wes Ball, we know him for his role as director in the film The Maze Runner. I’m a track head, and I love anything with a lot of running. (Looking at you, Forrest Gump, and Tom Cruise.)
His most recent movie, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is in post-production with a 2024 release date planned.
According to Nintendo’s news release:
Wes Ball will direct the picture, which Arad Productions Inc. and Nintendo will produce.
Most of the movie’s funding will come from Nintendo, with Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. contributing to the rest. Obviously, since this is coming from a Nintendo IP.
Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. will theatrically distribute the movie worldwide in a web-slinging fashion.
As for Nintendo, creating new ways for people worldwide to enjoy entertainment beyond gaming devices is just another one of their ways of being innovative, as they have always been.
Nintendo will keep making and sharing original entertainment, actively participating in film creation to bring happiness to as many people as possible.
Although I am curious if Link will have any dialogue in the film…
